The Story Behind Belle Birdie: A Young Female Founder’s Vision for Women’s Golfwear

At 23, with no formal experience in fashion or design, I took a leap of faith and launched Belle Birdie by SMT—a brand born from a personal frustration. As a new golfer, I struggled to find women’s golfwear that was both stylish and functional. What began as a simple search for my own wardrobe quickly revealed a much larger gap in the market. And so, Belle Birdie was born.

My journey with golf started during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I was looking for a new way to stay active and clear my mind. As I grew more invested in the sport, I set out to find proper outfits—but quickly hit a wall. The golfwear I found was either outdated, unflattering, or, in many cases, overpriced for synthetic performance materials that didn’t look nice at all. It didn’t make sense to me. Golf is such an elegant sport, yet there seemed to be no stylish, functional options that reflected that.

Frustrated, I reached out to every female golfer I knew. I asked where they bought their golf clothes, expecting to hear about at least a few nice brands. To my surprise, not a single person could name one they truly loved. It was in that moment that I realized there was a clear gap in the market. Over the next six months, I conducted in-depth market research, studying competitors, analyzing fashion and sustainability trends, and exploring the growth of female golf participation across Europe. The more I learned, the more certain I became: there was a real chance to offer something fresh and exciting for women in golf.

Belle Birdie was born from that vision. A brand focused on creating golfwear that was as stylish as it was functional, designed to support women both on and off the course. With no prior experience in fashion, I dove into every part of the process, learning what I could to create a collection that met the needs of modern female golfers. Knowing that I needed support, I was fortunate to partner with two incredible female designers in the UK who helped bring this vision to life. They were truly the angels sent from heaven—perfecting my fits, sourcing stunning materials and collaborating with the most prestigious manufacturers in Italy.

As a young female founder, my vision for Belle Birdie extends beyond beautiful, functional golfwear. I want to inspire women to seize opportunities and show what we can achieve when we trust ourselves and pursue our dreams, even when the odds are against them. My journey hasn’t been easy, and it hasn’t always gone according to plan, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. Today, Belle Birdie is growing, reaching more women across Switzerland who, like me, have been searching for the golfwear that they deserve. I’m endlessly grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way, the journey has been incredible so far, and I’m excited to continue growing Belle Birdie, one step at a time.
